September Celebrates Transit in the Bay Area with Events, Rides and Prizes

September marks Transit Month in the Bay Area, spotlighting the work the region's transit agencies do to keep residents commuting, traveling to school and visiting favorite places, while cutting greenhouse gases. MTC is the presenting sponsor of Transit Month.

The importance of transit in the region has been highlighted in recent weeks with high-profile events, including a pair of Taylor Swift concerts as well as a visit to the Bay Area by Beyoncé.

Transit Month will feature region-wide ride contests and prizes, a San Francisco Ride-Along and Rally with the Mayor and Board of Supervisors, a Rider First Awards Ceremony, and many other transit-themed regional activities. Riders logged almost 3,000 transit trips during the Ride Contest in 2022.

September is also Rail Safety Month and an important opportunity to recognize and support all the workers who make the system safe and reliable.

Over the years through Transit Month (and formerly Transit Day and Transit Week), MTC, San Francisco Transit Riders, Seamless Bay Area, and other transit-focused agencies and organizations have reached hundreds of riders through events held across the Bay Area. The events, which cover every transit agency in the Bay Area, raise awareness about the importance of keeping the region moving.
