MTC, BAHFA Seek Federal Funding for Affordable Housing

MTC is seeking federal funding from the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) grant program to support regional goals to produce and preserve affordable housing.

The PRO Housing grant program seeks to empower communities that are actively taking steps to remove barriers to affordable housing and increase housing production. The grant, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will provide funding to help metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and other government entities identify and remove barriers to affordable housing production and preservation.

As the Bay Area’s MPO, MTC — in partnership with the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA), VTA and BART — will submit an application to this competitive grant program. The application is expected to support implementation of MTC’s new Priority Sites pilot program, which will provide technical assistance and funding for regionally significant, locally nominated sites that advance Plan Bay Area 2050’s affordability, climate and equity goals.

The draft application is now available for public review. Members of the public are invited to review the draft application and submit written comments by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023.
