Bus, Bike or Walk to the America's Cup Using 511

OAKLAND, CA —  With thousands of spectators set to arrive for the 34th America’s Cup this week in San Francisco, 511 is featuring special information pages (511.org/AmericasCup) to show people how to get there on transit, by bike or car, or on foot.

The 2012–13 America’s Cup World Series first event runs from August 22–26, with practice racing on August 21.To attend the event at the AC Village at Marina Green, spectators are encouraged to plan ahead using 511’s online resources and tools.

America’s Cup events stretch across San Francisco’s northern waterfront, which can be accessed conveniently by public transit. The 511 Transit page provides information about transit options to get to the events, including tools on how to plan a trip by transit, obtain real-time transit information, schedules, maps, and fare information. A specially-marked transit maphighlights 2012 America’s Cup weekend transit services and indicates where Muni, Golden Gate Transit buses, and PresidiGo shuttles all connect to give you more frequent travel options from the waterfront to BART, Muni, ferries, or Caltrain.

To avoid congestion and move quickly through venues, spectators can ride their bikes to the event. The 511.org website offers detailed maps showing streets with dedicated bicycle lanes and recommended routes that allow you to avoid the hills. Information is also available about taking bikes on transit and bridges, as well as free valet bike parking at the America’s Cup Village on the Marina Green.

Visitors interested in walking can find information and maps about routes to take to enjoy the waterfront or the view from the hills.

For those who choose to drive to the America’s Cup, the 511 Traffic Map offers information on current traffic conditions and shows the best routes to use to avoid congestion. Drivers should be advised that San Francisco street closures may affect travel. Parking near the waterfront will be strictly managed to minimize local congestion, and visitors are encouraged to use specially designated America’s Cup parking lots.
