Bay Area Bike Share Seeks Community Input for Second Phase of Expansion
Bay Area Bike Share – operated by Motivate – announced today the dates for a second round of public planning workshops as site selection continues for an expanded bike share program that will serve San Francisco, San Jose, and bring bike share to Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville for the first time.
The program will grow bike share from a 700-bike pilot to a 7,000-bike robust transportation option for Bay Area residents – at no cost to taxpayers. The expansion will roll out in five phases over the next two years. After the expansion is complete, San Francisco will have 4,500 bikes – and Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose, and Emeryville will have a combined 2,500 bikes.
Motivate is committed to a robust community engagement process to select station locations that fit the needs of local residents and businesses. The public is invited to attend neighborhood workshops where they live, work or visit and provide input on potential local stations in their community.
Motivate has already held more than 70 stakeholder meetings and nine public workshops for Bay Area Bike Share, engaging thousands of local residents to plan “Phase 1” station locations. More than 5,000 Suggest-a-Station submissions were received in the program’s first phase.
Each workshop will be offered at two times on each date, with the same material being covered at both times. Each workshop will be focused on stations in that locality.
Additional neighborhood workshops will take place during 2016 in these cities, and will be announced on the Bay Area Bike Share website bayareabikeshare.com/expansion. People who cannot attend a workshop are encouraged to submit station ideas via the online suggest-a-station portal at suggest.bayareabikeshare.com.
