September 2015
SONOMA COUNTY - Photographer Noah Berger was at the scene September 4, 2015 when Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) employees were putting into place the new Haystack Bridge, a key piece of infrastructure that connects the new rail service to the other side of the Petaluma River. The new 70-mile rail service will feature sleek green and black self-propelled clean diesel trains that will take passengers north and south along the Highway 101 corridor, from San Rafael to Santa Rosa for the initial phase and eventually to Cloverdale by the second phase. Photos of the trains were taken at the SMART Operation and Maintenance Facility in Santa Rosa. Funded in part by MTC and MTC's Bay Area Toll Authority, the new rail system is set to open late 2016.
