FasTrak® Puts Race Fans in Winner's Circle

Prizes for New Customers Through June 6

OAKLAND, CA — FasTrak® customers can use their electronic toll tags to win pole position in the race for parking this season at world-famous Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. At four of the raceway’s biggest 2008 events, vehicles displaying a FasTrak® toll tag will get to use a dedicated FasTrak® lane at Main Entrance Gate 7 and proceed directly to Parking Lot 12 — reserved exclusively for FasTrak® customers. FasTrak® is the fastest way in — and out — for:

  • Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown (May 16-18)
  • NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (June 20-22)
  • FRAM Autolite NHRA National Drag Races (July 25-27)
  • Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County (August 22-24).

New customers who sign up for FasTrak® from May 1 to June 6, either online or by purchasing a toll tag at a participating Safeway store or Costco warehouse, are eligible to win one of 400 pairs of tickets for the NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 race on Sunday, June 22. One new customer who enrolls in the FasTrak® program during the promotion period will win a NASCAR Grand Prize package that includes: two seats in the Infineon Raceway Checkered Flag Club (club access includes continental breakfast and catered lunch plus start/finish grandstand seats); two all-access passes for a pit tour that includes access to on-track driver introductions and the concert stage; two Hot Laps around the track with a professional race driver; a VIP parking pass; and more.

To qualify, customers must open a new FasTrak® account online at www.511.org or www.bayareafastrak.org, or by purchasing a FasTrak® toll tag at select retail locations and then registering the toll tag online during the promotion period. Online customers must select “Promotion” as the answer to the on-screen question, “How did you hear about FasTrak®?” Only new accounts marked with the “Promotion” code will be eligible to win. Customers who enroll by phone, mail, fax or in person at the FasTrak® customer service center in San Francisco are not eligible to win.

During the promotion period (which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, May 1 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 6), eligible entries will be combined to create the entry pool from which the prize winners will be selected via a random drawing conducted by the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA). All winners will be selected on or after June 10, 2008. Winners will be notified by mail, and a list of winners will be posted at www.511.org.

FasTrak® is the electronic toll collection system that allows drivers to prepay tolls on the Bay Area’s toll bridges, eliminating the need to stop and pay cash at the toll plaza. The partnership with Infineon Raceway is part of a continuing effort by BATA to improve the efficiency of toll plaza operations, and to boost the percentage of motorists who pay their tolls electronically. FasTrak® can be used in all lanes at all Bay Area toll plazas. Currently, there are more than 750,000 FasTrak® account holders in the Bay Area. During peak periods, FasTrak®-equipped vehicles account for about 70 percent of morning commute traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge and about 63 percent on the region’s seven state-owned bridges.

BATA, which is directed by the same policy board as the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), administers toll revenues from the region's seven state-owned toll bridges. MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
