Bay Area Air Quality Management District

The BayArea Air Quality Management District - or BAAQMD - works with MTC on issues that affect transportation, land use and air quality.

The Air District (as we like to call it) sponsors programs to promote clean air, and regulates industry to help reduce air pollution.

Find out more on the Air District website.

Visit 511.org and review the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program, developed jointly by MTC and the Air District.

This program requires employers with 50 or more full-time employees in the Bay Area to offer commuter benefits to their employees.

Check out the Bay Area Bike Share website - our bike sharing system with 700 bikes and 70 stations.

We are now gearing up for a large-scale expansion that will include hundreds of new bikes and docking stations — including its first East Bay locations in Berkeley, Emeryville and Oakland.

The Air District established its well-known Spare the Air program to reduce air pollution and provide advance notice when a Spare the Air Alert is in effect.

The Air District declares Spare the Air Alerts on days when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy.

Sign up for Air Alerts and learn more about how you can Spare the Air when you visit the website.
